When one ahem precocious pre-teen Anglo male stumbles upon a secret world, their ordinary life is transformed. There’s magic or fairies or steampunk-esque flying machines - something that makes their mundane life fantastic. And, they are the only one who can save the world from an unseen dark power that operates in the shadows. Enter a world where the hero’s parents are tragically missing, adults are oblivious, and the only competent authority figure dies leaving a void in the hero’s life. Will a beloved character from the book be changed because of their outdated depiction? Will audiences ship two minor characters forcing the author to adjust future installments? Maybe? Like most YA adaptations, this one is pretty lazy and we’ve already put more work into this than the entire pre-production of Artemis Fowl.
