Black Friday

Originally slated as a remake of the classic comedy FRIDAY, but with an all African-American cast, we quickly realized the flaws in our reasoning and switched courses.  This pitch now focuses on Sean, the millennial owner of a struggling niche-market burger restaurant catering to people who enjoy pun-based menu items and combinations of ingredients that really don't go well together but look gimmicky and exotic enough to make you be disappointed.  With only enough capital to keep the restaurant afloat for another month, Sean needs a miracle and he needs it quick.  Just when all seems to be lost, Sean thinks he finds that miracle – an article on his Twitter feed about the newly discovered and elusive black potato.  And best of all?  Why, the author of the article has apparently collected seeds from these potatoes (yes, we said seeds…) and is selling them online!  Knowing these black potatoes could be used to make just the type of menu item that’ll save his business, Sean orders a pack and starts advertising his new promotion right away: Black Fri-Day!   Obviously the seeds turn out to be bunk and Sean loses his business.  We’re guessing the burger puns and Sean-trashing will only take up an hour max, and agree there’s only so much we can expect an audience to emotionally invest in a guy like Sean, so let’s say the seeds turn into a been stalk leading him to Chris Tucker’s mansion in the sky, where the two of them team up to help Chris’s tough but lovable friend escape being killed by a bully.
