VAD BODS

It’s sad news for the paunchy patriarchs out there- dad bods are so 2022. Everyone is back to appreciating a ripped and muscular physique.

This is no great shakes to protagonist Herman- he has been married with children for nearly two decades, and much like his tv predecessor Al Bundy, he is a tired and trapped man. And as society in 2024 teeters on the edge and it threatens to all burn down he makes a bold decision. Rather than work for another 15-20 years and endure humiliation at the office and scorn at home in the hope of staying healthy enough to enjoy some retirement before his meager savings run out , he books a flight to Switzerland and registers at a Voluntary Assisted Death clinic to embrace sweet oblivion.

At first the providers at the clinic balk at his request, but that’s nothing greasing their dirty palms with some Swiss francs won’t solve, and his termination date is set for two weeks hence.

Knowing the end is nigh he tosses his mobile phone, enjoys the local scenery, and begins acting in a fashion completely out of character- loud, brash, aggressive and free. He catches the attention of some younger, attractive clubgoers at the discotheque one night a week out from his death, and before long is swept up in their nocturnal antics, getting dragged into a bank robbery and acting as a getaway driver even though he has no knowledge of the road rules or layout of the city.

As his expiration date grows nearer, will his renewed zest for life amid the friendly and attractive Swiss citizenry and the invigoration of being a fugitive make him waffle in his decision? Or will he go down as a pioneer and inspiration for middle-aged men suffering from ennui everywhere? Find out in this tonally dissonant romp directed with misplaced whimsy by Michel Gondry this fall.
