The Binge

America doesn’t need or want another Purge movie right now- that will probably be actually happening in the streets across the country next week anyway. But it is Halloween- a day of spooky and sugary excess, and in the fine tradition of going far beyond acceptable limits of social and cultural mores comes this documentary experiment being brought to theaters as a live-broadcast Fathom event.

Willing participants sign a waiver and commit to remain in the theater for up to 6 hours. The programming in each theater will vary between 3 curated sets: attendees will either see Damien Leone’s Terrifier trilogy, a Nic Cage triple feature of Willy’s Wonderland, Mom and Dad, and Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, or a 6 hour super-cut  of local and national election commercials. Refreshments are provided and unlimited but are restricted to just popcorn, Coke flavored Icees, and Raisinets. Every time an attendee tries to look away from the screen they must eat a handful of snacks or take a gulp of their drink. And if they reach for their phones the seats are programmed to provide a low voltage shock to their asses.

If a participant vomits or voids their bowels they are eliminated, and the same if they begin demonstrating mental decompensation or aggression towards other patrons.

The theater with the most remaining active participants at the end of the 6 hours wins a free month of AMC’s Stubs A-List and two tickets to the next Fathom Metropolitan Opera showing.

Don’t have the cojones to participate yourself? Stream the action from your local theater on Twitch and pony up some Bits to administer shocks to the patron of your choice.
