Madam Mountebank

After a midnight crackdown in the Parisian red-light district, an early 18th century French prostitute finds herself forced into marriage with a small-time con man and on her way to a deportation ship bound for America. She and her new husband escape and decide to take the law into their own hands: specifically John Law, head of the Mississippi Company and subsequently King Louis XIV’s Banque Royale. This hooker with an axe to grind joins with her new man to run schemes that ultimately take down the most powerful and wealthy man in France while changing a country forever.
