Nic Cage returns to the Face/Off universe in this soft reboot of the John Woo classic. It turns out Castor Troy was more indestructible than originally written. After taking a harpoon to the chest and being left for dead, Castor is rescued by Hong Kong pirates. Forced to wear a Doctor Doom-esque mask to cover his grotesque visage, Castor sets his sights on the one thing he needs to rebuild his empire; his face. Enter Nestor Troy, Castor’s unknown other twin brother. Castor doesn’t just want to forcefully take Nestor’s face, he seeks to use it as a template to re-skin his goon henchmen into a greek chorus of Castor Troys. It’s a cat-and-mouse game of stupid proportions as Nic simultaneously over and under-acts his way through a plot so convoluted and contrived you’ll wish we were still under quarantine lockdown. The original Face/Off begat Infernal Affairs which led to The Departed. Tell Marty Scorsese to prepare his next acceptance speech as Nic returns to the role he was contracted to play — all of them.
